André Farr, chairman of the Black Sports Agents Association, has garnered more than two decades of experience in the sports management and entertainment promotion industries. Furthermore, André Farr is the founder of the Chairman’s Challenge, a nationwide effort to prevent health complications such as diabetes and obesity.
The Chairman’s Challenge promotes an active lifestyle, proper nutrition, and rest. It invites CEOs, chairmen, and business leaders to promote healthier lifestyles and to serve as positive role models. The ultimate goal of the challenge is to reduce the incidence of the medical and economic consequences of conditions such as diabetes and obesity in the community.
According to the American Diabetes Association, 29.1 million Americans were living with diabetes in 2012. This constituted 9.3% of the population and was a 3.3 million increase from the 2010 figure. In addition, the number of obese, adult Americans was 78.6 million or over a third of the population between 2011 and 2012, according to a 2014 JAMA article by Cynthia L. Ogden, PhD, et al. Both diabetes and obesity can increase a person’s risk of developing heart disease, hypertension, stroke, and dyslipidemia.
